Danish Landrace is part of Danish Genetics’ breeding programme and one of the Maternal Lines used in the Danish cross-breeding programme. The Landrace is a strong animal with high fertility and good parenting skills. The Landrace is therefore used as a mother sow for the well-known cross-bred (LY/YL) sow, which is known the world over for the high returns achieved when used for breeding slaughter pigs.

Danish Yorkshire is the second Maternal Line used in Danish Genetics’ cross-breeding programme.  Danish Yorkshire is known as a good production breed on account of its good parenting skills and high fertility as well as good growth rate, low feed consumption, meat percentage and meat quality. The Yorkshire is therefore used as a mother sow for the well-known cross-bred (LY/YL) sow, which is known the world over for the high returns achieved when used for breeding slaughter pigs.

Danish Duroc is included in Danish Genetics’ breeding programme as Terminal Line. The Duroc is known for its high growth rate, low feed consumption, high meat percentage and good meat quality. The breed is characterised by its excellent meat quality.

The cross-bred sow (LY/YL), also called the hybrid sow, is a cross between Danish Yorkshire and Danish Landrace, which results in the market’s most ideal production sow for slaughter pig production as far as production returns and effectiveness are concerned. This is a result of the low feed consumption, high growth rate, high degree of fertility, good parenting skills, long life-span and high slaughter quality of the cross-bred sow (LY/YL).
